4-Wheels???????

A message to all GWRRA members in Illinois.

I have put together this 6 page message that is on the GWRRA General Message Board, in hopes of answering some of the questions that may be going around because of the email that I recently sent out on this subject. All the information included in the message pertains to Iowa only, I have sent a message to the Illinois State Police, and have received the following answer: The Illinois definition of a motorcycle says.... ``A motor vehicle having a seat or saddle for the use of the rider and designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, but excluding a tractor``.

So anything that has more than 3 wheels is NOT a motorcycle. But a conversion kit that would turn a cycle into a trike is on...like the 3 wheeled versions that we see all the time here in Illinois.

I hope this answers your question. If you need more info give me a call:
Tpr. Brian Copple
Illinois State Police
District 08
Safety Education Officer
Office : (309) 383-2133 ext. 232
Pager : (309) 495-3035
Cell : (309) 696-4239

It is unfortunate that Trp. Copple did not state the Illinois code that effects this kind of accessory being used on motorcycles. I will be getting in contact with the Secretary of States Office, to see if they will assist me in getting the proper code numbers.

With GWRRA being a non-political based organization, we, as an organization can not do any more than to inform you of potential problems involved within our chosen hobby.

It is my suggestion that each and every one of you that are interested, please get in contact with your local elected officials in trying to get this issue changed.

I will be keeping you informed of any information that I learn in regards to this subject.

Automated External Defibrillator ( AED ). This piece of medical equipment is now in the possession of the District Educator. Specific guidelines have been developed. Unlike the AED that may hang on the wall of a public location to be used by the well intending citizen our AEDs use is restricted and monitored. Restricted by the United States Food & Drug Administration, Illinois Revised Statues and the Illinois Department of Health.

Policy and procedure of use:
  1. The AED's over-site must be established with the domicile EMS System Resource Hospital. That means that Steve has to establish a liaison with his local hospital so that a defendable paper trail is a matter of public record of it's maintenance and usage.
  2. Only individuals recognized by the organization through documented training and certification can use this device. Currently members of the District Staff who have taken the MFA ( CPR & First Aid ) course and were current have been certified for AED use.
  3. When our AED is present at one of our functions the local EMS ( Fire Department ) must be notified. Currently, it is the Staff position that the AED will be present at all major District Sponsored events. It's presence at any other gathering will be reviewed by the staff on a case by case bases.
  4. Should the AED be used, it's usage follows a very specific protocol of notification, paperwork and subsequent documentation.
The purchase of the Automated External Defibrillator was a substantial undertaking by the previous administration. The continuing efforts of this administration and those that follow to maintain, train and use this piece of medical equipment shows the high degree of integrity of GWRRA and it's membership.

As you can see the AED's purchase has not been taken lightly and it is now part of the Illinois District of GWRRA.
