Motorist Awareness Division

From the desk of the District M.A.D. Coordinator,
GWRRA members,
Carol and I would like to say thanks to those members that have stepped forward to become staff members of their chapter. We have been in the staff position the last 7 years an have had a great time. We have also witness “ups and downs” of chapter life. As staffer you work for the good of your members. This may call for you to step in an settle a disagreement between members, try an settle this as soon as you an your staff can. Without settling the problem it will just grow and may split your chapter. Watch out for any problems within your chapter an try an settle them. I was told by a Chapter Director,” that he was not a babysitter, if members have problems, work it out”. Sometimes we as staffers we must step in and
try and settle the disagreement, for the `Good of the Chapter Members.`
The Motorist Awareness Division, MAD) as some know it. is a program to help the Motoring Public to be aware of motorcycles and trikes. This can be done by the awareness an educational programs that GWRRA has to offer. In order to get the word out, we must have members step forward and take up the `Challenge.” The MAD program is under the Rider Ed. program, if your chapter does not have a MAD coordinator then all info I send out will go to the RED. The MAD coordinator will work with the RED, PR and the COY to help get the word out to the `Motoring Public.” Ways to get the word out, mall shows, bike shows, hand out MAD fliers at different events and participate in the state wide `Windshield Wash` at rest areas in our state. In 2007 GWRRA along with 30 other motorcycle organizations washed over 3,000 windshields in rest areas throughout the state, handing out fliers and bumper stickers an sharing our love of Motorcycling. One question I like to ask the Motoring Public, `would you count the motorcycles you see on the road-way as you travel,” this will make them more aware of motorcycles and trikes.
The Region E, MAD coordinator, Charles Mallett, has set up a program. Members that participate will get a nice MAD pin. I will be `Bugging` you members to participate in chapter events that will count toward the regional MAD event. The past 3 yrs MAD has set up rides for the district, Chapter R park ride, oddity ride and the passport ride. This year’s ride will be a poker ride to IL County Seats 102 thru out the state. I will send out the rules and couple of the county seats. The `Windshield Wash,” you need to get your `Request form” back to IDOT, so that your rest area that you request will be open the date that you would like. Make this a chapter event, with a dinner ride after, this can be a `Fun` day for you and the members.
Now a little on the Regional `Umbrella` program. This program is for the CD`s to have an idea what programs the chapter may need to participate more in. The more our members are educated, the more safe all our members will be. Get your members to participate in the MFA, we all should have the class. If I am the only member on a ride that has taken CPR and I go down, who will give me CPR???? I would like to congratulate Harold & Carol Huddlestun` V2` CD, on their hard work in becoming `Chapter of Year.` The chapters that participated made the program very competitive, with a lot of riding done by the chapters. Thanks for your participation in this event. As you can tell I use the word `Participate.` more than some, because in order to have Fun we as members must participate and be part of the Fun, not just set an watch, but be part of the Fun.
`PARTICIPATE`
Thanks again,
Z-Ya
